Karachi Experiences Multiple Tremors
Karachi has been rattled by tremors for the fourth time since yesterday, with new seismic activity reported across the city on Monday morning.
Residents in Landhi and Malir reported feeling the earth shake again at approximately 10:25 am. Individuals from areas including Quaidabad, Malir, Saudabad, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Khokhrapar, Steel Town, and nearby localities also verified experiencing the tremors.
A subsequent round of tremors was felt at 11:04 am, resulting in widespread alarm as numerous residents evacuated their homes in fear.
According to the Seismological Centre, the most recent tremor registered a magnitude of 3.2 near Landhi and Malir. The quake’s origin was located near Quaidabad, at a depth of 10 kilometres, and officially recorded at 10:29 am.
Notably, Karachi also experienced two minor tremors during the previous night.
Chief Meteorologist Aamir Haider stated that the Malir, Quaidabad, and adjacent regions have experienced four tremors since Saturday. A seismic event was recorded at 5:33 pm the previous day, registering a magnitude of 3.6 at a depth of 10 kilometres, with its source located near Quaidabad.
An additional tremor occurred at 1:06 am last night, measuring a magnitude of 3.2 with a depth of 12 kilometres, originating near Gadap Town.
Aamir Haider clarified that the source of these tremors is the Landhi Fault Region, which, historically, has not generated significant earthquakes. He pointed out the area’s seismic activity, along with another fault line in proximity to Thana Bula Khan.
He further noted that low-intensity seismic events are frequently documented in these areas. The Kirthar region, situated close to the Main Boundary Thrust, also occasionally undergoes moderate tremors. The fault line may require several days to stabilize, and additional minor tremors are possible in the coming days.
