Du Plessis Discusses Next Title Defense with UFC
UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis addressed recent speculation on Thursday, dismissing claims of an injury and assuring fans that details regarding his upcoming fight will be revealed shortly.
Du Plessis refuted reports of a shin injury and clarified that a fight on June 28 was never officially scheduled for his next title defense.
“Okay so everyone had their opinions and rumours and stories about a shin break and injuries etc. I found it all very entertaining, unfortunately none of it is true,” Du Plessis stated in an Instagram post on Thursday.
“Myself and [UFC] already discussed a fight date and opponent, the June fight was never signed I did not pull out of any fight, I am the champion I know when I fight you as a contender just show up when we tell you to. Fight announcement coming soon stay tuned.”
In his most recent appearance in February, Du Plessis secured a victory against Sean Strickland at UFC 312. The South African fighter earned the win through a unanimous decision, following a fourth-round submission victory against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305.
Du Plessis’s recent statement hinted at his next opponent, with Khamzat Chimaev and Caio Borralho emerging as potential contenders.
Chimaev boasts an unblemished record across 14 professional fights, while Borralho is currently riding a 17-fight winning streak.
