Pakistan Railways and ICCI Partner to Outsource Dry Port

Pakistan Railways (PR) and the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) have formalized an agreement to outsource the railway’s dry port operations to the Chamber.

During a meeting on Wednesday with the ICCI delegation, Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi stated the agreement’s goal extends beyond business development, aiming to boost national revenue.

The meeting facilitated discussions between the minister and the ICCI delegation on various projects intended to modernize and enhance Pakistan Railways. The Divisional Superintendent Rawalpindi updated the minister on the railway’s assets in Rawalpindi, highlighting strategic initiatives designed for the growth of Pakistan Railways.

Abbasi has sanctioned the Freight Train project to cut down the goods delivery duration between Karachi and Rawalpindi to under four days. The project seeks to ease the increasing load on roads and improve public transportation options.

Abbasi remarked, “In a mere 1.5 years, we have accomplished what remained undone for two decades. We are strategically deploying our resources to steer Pakistan Railways toward a revitalized and robust future.” The Freight Train project is expected to elevate Pakistan Railways’ earnings and stimulate nationwide economic progress.

The Railways Minister also revealed upcoming roadshows across all Pakistan Railways divisions. He has directed all Divisional Superintendents to engage with their respective Chambers of Commerce to cultivate strong partnerships for shared prosperity. “Collectively, we will fortify the prospects of Pakistan Railways and unlock avenues for collaboration.”

Abbasi also announced a contract with RWMC for cleaning services at three Rawalpindi stations at competitive rates. He emphasized the importance of cleanliness and the commitment to providing superior travel amenities to passengers. He added, “We are establishing a legacy that will serve as a valuable asset for generations to come.”
