PECA Amendment Challenged in Lahore High Court
Soon after its approval, the PECA Amendment Bill 2025 was legally challenged in the Lahore High Court (LHC). Critics argue that the bill could restrict press freedom and digital rights, leading to widespread debate over its implications.
Government’s Stance: Revisions Possible
Amid growing opposition, Senator Afnan Ullah stated that if concerns arise regarding the PECA law, the government is open to reviewing and reconsidering it. However, nationwide protests by journalists indicate that civil society remains skeptical.
Nationwide Protests Over Digital Censorship Concerns
Following the bill’s approval, journalists and digital rights activists have staged nationwide demonstrations, voicing concerns over potential restrictions on free speech and digital privacy. Many fear that the PECA amendments could lead to greater government control over online content and dissenting voices.
