Das Attributes Measured Approach to Pitch Conditions in Asia Cup Opener
ABU DHABI: Following Bangladesh’s convincing seven-wicket triumph over Hong Kong in their opening match of the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium on Thursday, captain Litton Das conveyed his satisfaction with securing a victory to commence their campaign.
Das, who played a crucial role with a top score of 59 from 39 deliveries, earning him the Player of the Match award, emphasized how vital it is to begin a tournament with a win.
He further noted that his squad has demonstrated ‘strong form’ in their preceding two series, while also recognizing the heightened stakes of the Asia Cup.
“Securing the win in the initial game was of utmost importance. We have been performing well in the recent series, but the Asia Cup brings a different level of pressure. Our performance today was excellent,” Litton stated after the game.
Das drew attention to the improvement of his team’s bowling attack and specifically lauded leg-spinner Rishad Hossain, whose contribution of two wickets for 31 runs across four overs was instrumental in the victory.
“Our fast bowling unit has been exceptional over the past few years, and we were primarily seeking a proficient leg spinner, a role Rishad has fulfilled admirably,” Das commented.
The Bangladesh skipper then explained that the sluggish nature of the pitch necessitated a strategic approach during the middle overs, making it challenging to execute powerful shots on the expansive ground.
“Given the somewhat slow wicket, we needed to adopt a cautious strategy in the middle overs, capitalizing on the spacious outfield by focusing on singles and doubles.”
It’s important to note that with this seven-wicket victory, Bangladesh has claimed the second spot in Group B and are now preparing to face their formidable rivals, Sri Lanka, in their subsequent Asia Cup 2025 match on Saturday.
