Auditor-General’s Office Refutes Erroneous Media Reports

ISLAMABAD: The Department of the Auditor-General of Pakistan (DAGP) has firmly dismissed recent media publications that suggested inaccuracies in the federal audit reports. The department characterized these claims as completely baseless and deceptive.

In a statement released on Monday, the DAGP clarified that the Audit Reports and Appropriation Accounts/ Financial Statements for the fiscal year 2023–24 were properly presented to the President of Pakistan through the Prime Minister, adhering strictly to constitutional mandates and established protocols.

The President granted approval for the submission, and the reports were subsequently forwarded to both Houses of Parliament.

The department elaborated that the DAGP, as the nation’s Supreme Audit Institution, functions under the constitutional authority defined in Articles 168 to 171 of the Constitution of Pakistan (1973). Article 171 explicitly states that reports from the Auditor-General concerning federal accounts must be presented to the President, who then ensures their submission to both houses of Parliament. Similarly, reports related to provincial accounts are submitted to the Governor, who presents them to the Provincial Assembly.

The statement further detailed that the President’s approval of the reports was officially communicated via the President’s Secretariat on April 12, 2025. Following this communication, the required number of Federal audit reports were printed for presentation before both Houses of Parliament.

At the request of the AGP, the motions were listed in the National Assembly’s agenda on August 13, 2025. However, the National Assembly Secretariat, through its Deputy Secretary (Legislation), advised that the Assembly session had been adjourned, preventing the inclusion of the report presentation motion in the agenda.

The Secretariat also requested that the reports be collected from the Legislation branch, maintaining confidentiality until their formal presentation to the House. It was also clarified that the Audit Reports sent to the Senate remain under the care of the Senate Secretariat.

Therefore, the circulating news reports in print media alleging calculation errors in the Audit Reports and claiming their return by the National Assembly Secretariat are wholly without merit and misleading.

The Audit Reports and Appropriation Accounts/ Financial Statements were duly submitted to the National Assembly Secretariat following Presidential approval of the Prime Minister’s recommendation for their presentation to Parliament. The Audit Reports underwent thorough quality checks and contained no errors.

The figures cited in the media pertain to the executive summary of the consolidated federal audit report for 2024-25, intended as a reference tool to help stakeholders access and review sector-specific findings.
