Karachi ATC Remands Farhan Ghani in Custody

A special anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Monday placed Farhan Ghani, the chairman of Chanesar Town and brother of Sindh’s local government minister Saeed Ghani, in police custody until August 28. This action is related to a case concerning the alleged aggression against a government employee.

Farhan Ghani surrendered to law enforcement after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against him at the Ferozabad police precinct. The complaint was lodged by a government employee, Hafiz Sohail, who claims he was assaulted while overseeing fiber cable installation on a service road near Sharae Faisal on August 22.

The FIR implicates Farhan along with five associates, accusing them of attempted homicide and acts of terrorism, in addition to other legal violations.

Ghani and his co-accused were presented by police before the ATC at Karachi Central Jail for proceedings in the assault case.

Court Proceedings

During the court session, the presiding judge requested the Investigating Officer (IO) to specify the accusations against the defendants.

The IO stated that Ghani and his accomplices had attacked the government official while he was under police protection. The prosecution requested a 14-day remand for further inquiry.

Farhan Ghani refuted the allegations, asserting he was simply passing by when he observed the road excavation.

Defense Statement

As the Town Chairman, he argued that he had the authority to question any unauthorized activity.

“I only requested to see the authorization. When it was not provided, I told them to halt the work. I did not harm anyone,” Farhan Ghani clarified to the court.

Following the arguments, the court approved the physical remand until August 28 and instructed the police to submit a progress report and present the accused at the subsequent hearing.
