Pre-Monsoon Rains Forecasted Across Pakistan
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast for pre-monsoon rainfall in diverse regions of the country from June 20th to 23rd, interspersed with occasional breaks. This precipitation is expected to alleviate the intense heatwave that has been affecting numerous areas.
The approaching wet weather pattern is anticipated to bring dust storms, rain accompanied by wind, and thunderstorms. Certain isolated locations may also experience instances of significant rainfall and hailstorms.
According to the PMD, there is an influx of moist air currents originating from both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, influencing the upper and central parts of the country.
Furthermore, a westerly wave is projected to reach the upper regions around June 20th, adding to the development of unstable weather conditions during the specified timeframe.
Expected Rainfall Distribution
From June 20th to 23rd, various areas of upper and central Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Narowal, Sargodha, and Mianwali, are predicted to receive rain, thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and hailstorms.
The upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, such as Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Charsadda, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Kohat, Bannu, Karak, Dera Ismail Khan, and Waziristan, are also likely to experience rainfall and thunderstorms.
Scattered rain and thunderstorms are expected in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Murree, and Galliyat during this period.
Between June 21st and 23rd, dust storms and rain with wind/thunderstorms are forecast for parts of south Punjab and northeastern Balochistan, including Zhob, Barkhan, Musakhel, Kalat, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, and Sahiwal.
The upper districts of Sindh, particularly Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad, are expected to experience dust storms and thundershowers from June 22nd to 24th.
Advisory and Precautions
The PMD has cautioned that windstorms and lightning could potentially damage vulnerable infrastructure, including electric poles, trees, solar panels, and parked vehicles, particularly in upper and central regions, including Islamabad. The ongoing heatwave affecting many parts of the country is anticipated to gradually diminish during the forecast period.
There is a possibility of urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Islamabad due to heavy rainfall. Farmers are advised to manage their agricultural activities in accordance with the weather forecast.
The general public, travelers, and tourists are advised to take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary travel to sensitive or flood-prone areas.
The PMD has instructed all relevant authorities to remain vigilant and implement measures to prevent any adverse situations.
