Conor McGregor Hints at UFC Return, Reigniting Michael Chandler Fight Speculation
Former UFC Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor has suggested a comeback to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, sparking renewed discussions about a potential showdown with Michael Chandler.
The two combatants recently shared cryptic messages on social media, generating buzz among fans and fueling speculation about their anticipated fight.
McGregor’s last appearance in the Octagon was in July 2021, when he was defeated by Dustin Poirier at UFC 264. His planned return at UFC 303 in 2024, against Chandler during International Fight Week, was called off due to a toe injury.
While McGregor has been inactive, Chandler has remained engaged, competing against Charles Oliveira at UFC 309 and Paddy Pimblett at UFC 314, both resulting in losses for the American fighter.
After WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, McGregor posted on social media on Monday, stating, “I’ll only come back to a stadium,” implying he desires his next fight to take place on a significant stage.
He added to the anticipation with a subsequent post on X (formerly Twitter), stating: “IRON MIKE CHANDLER. Unfinished business.”
Chandler quickly responded, tweeting: “Unfinished Business Loading…” and later posting on Threads: “Dust off the old contract and add some new ink… I’m ready tomorrow.”
McGregor, who has a 1-3 record in his last four fights, including defeats to Khabib Nurmagomedov and Dustin Poirier, seems keen to return, but under specific conditions.
Notably, McGregor and Chandler were opposing coaches on The Ultimate Fighter 31 in 2023, adding another dimension to their ongoing rivalry.
