Chinese FM Wang Yi Meets with COAS Asim Munir in Islamabad
During his official visit to Pakistan, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in a meeting with Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir in Islamabad, according to the military’s media affairs division.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated that discussions encompassed regional security dynamics, collaborative counter-terrorism strategies, and salient matters of mutual interest to both nations.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to bolster their enduring strategic alliance and enhance cooperation across regional and global platforms.
Wang Yi conveyed China’s unwavering dedication to Pakistan’s sovereignty and progress, while the COAS expressed appreciation for Beijing’s consistent assistance, as per the statement.
The meeting concluded with a mutual pledge to foster peace, stability, and prosperity within the region.
This meeting occurred a day after the Chinese Foreign Minister’s discussions with top Pakistani government figures, including the prime minister, president, and deputy prime minister.
Earlier, FM Wang Yi conducted a strategic dialogue with Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, where both countries reiterated their firm dedication to the enhanced development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
During their interaction, both sides comprehensively assessed the Pakistan-China relationship and addressed significant regional and global matters. They also had detailed exchanges on various aspects of bilateral cooperation, notably CPEC 2.0, trade and economic ties, multilateral collaboration, and interpersonal connections.
Addressing the joint press briefing alongside FM Wang Yi, Deputy PM and FM Senator Dar underscored the complete alignment and consensus between the two nations on major bilateral, regional, and global issues.
Dar remarked, “We are encouraged by Yi’s vision for advancing our bilateral cooperation, particularly upgrading CPEC to its next phase.”
FM Wang described CPEC as the central element of the Pakistan-China strategic partnership, emphasizing that the current focus is on advancing the high-quality advancement of the Corridor.
He conveyed that during the 6th strategic dialogues, both parties concurred to transform CPEC into “a growth corridor, a livelihood-enhancing corridor, a green corridor, and an open corridor”.
He further added, “We will strive to deepen our industrial, agricultural, and mining cooperation to improve the welfare of the Pakistani people and accelerate Pakistan’s capability for self-sustained development and enhance Pakistan’s economic resilience.” China also supports the development and operation of Gwadar port and promoting the KKH realignment project. Furthermore, the Chinese Foreign Minister welcomed third-party participation in the ML-1 (Main Line Railway) project.
