CM Punk Weighs In on WWE Future, Hints at Possible Contract Extension

WWE Superstar CM Punk recently addressed the ambiguity surrounding his future with the company, acknowledging his hesitation about committing to a lengthy contract.

The 46-year-old, who made his comeback to the ring in 2023, is gearing up to participate in WrestleMania 41 for the first time in over a decade. He is scheduled to square off against Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins in a high-stakes Triple Threat Match as the Night 1 main event.

In a recent discussion, Punk lauded Randy Orton’s resilience and passion for remaining in the wrestling world, despite the physical toll and challenges that come with age. Punk admitted that his age could potentially be a hindrance to securing a long-term role in WWE.

“I definitely know I can’t go forever,” Punk stated. “The idea is to – and I’ve discussed this with Randy [Orton] because, well, Randy and I, is Randy younger than me? Even if he is, it’s not by much. And when it comes to wear and tear, we’re neck and neck, it’s a close race there.

“I spoke with him, and he’s just like, ‘I’m going to do this as long as my body allows.’ And I admire that because he’s incredibly passionate about it. It’s not just a, ‘Screw it. I’m aware I’m overweight and out of shape, and I can’t perform anymore, but I’ll continue anyway.’ He’s never looked in better condition. He’s never been in better form. I think Randy’s gotten taller,” he commented.

Punk further noted that despite the hurdles of being a veteran wrestler, he feels as though he is just beginning his current stint with WWE.

“And observing him makes me think, ‘Okay.’ Because there’s undoubtedly a stigma attached to ‘being an older guy.’ You don’t want to continue past your peak performance. But honestly, some days I finish my tasks and think, ‘I feel like I’m just getting going,'” he expressed.

“This recent journey I’ve been on has sort of swept me away, leading me to a point, although I can’t recall the precise moment, where I turned to someone, either Paul Heyman or Triple H, and said, ‘At 46, I believe I’m finally grasping the essence of the business,’” he added.

Despite his zeal, Punk disclosed that WWE has presented him with a five-year contract to ensure his long-term presence with the company. However, he voiced reservations about his ability to maintain that level of commitment for an extended period, recognizing the limitations of his physical endurance.

“And that’s the reality of the business. Your physical condition will likely decline before your mental acuity does. So, for me, my mind is sharper than ever. I’m more focused than ever. And there’s a fulfilling existence in wrestling beyond enduring physical punishment in the ring. So, we’ll see what unfolds. But I’m not planning on – they’re trying to get me to commit to a five-year agreement. When I consider that, I think, ‘I don’t know if I can,’”
