Balochistan Security Forces Foil Major Independence Day Plot

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti stated on Monday that security agencies, along with the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), successfully prevented a significant destructive plan set for Independence Day. He gave credit to their combined efforts for saving the province from substantial devastation.

During a press briefing in Quetta, the Chief Minister stated that the suicide bombers intended to target innocent citizens celebrating Independence Day on August 14.

Bugti lauded the work of law enforcement and encouraged parents to carefully supervise their children to keep them from being deceived. He highlighted the importance of Balochistan’s residents remaining watchful and avoiding elements disseminating propaganda.

The Chief Minister disclosed that the individuals implicated in the Quetta Railway Station incident in November 2024 were the same ones responsible for the recent scheme.

He indicated that investigations are still in progress and additional propaganda methods will be brought to light. Bugti emphasized that while collective punishment would not be imposed on the community, those who target innocent children and citizens will face severe consequences.

Bugti additionally revealed the confession of a lecturer from BUITEMS University, who acknowledged utilizing the Telegram application for terrorist actions. The lecturer admitted to obtaining targets, aiding terrorist activities, and betraying the nation.

According to Bugti, the apprehended lecturer possessed a PhD in Pakistan Studies and was instructing students, while his wife was also a teacher, and his mother was a pensioner. He questioned the claims of deprivation, criticizing the exploitation of marginalization narratives. He further claimed that such individuals were also coercing women into preparing for suicide attacks.

Bugti cautioned that those who oppose the state should be prosecuted under distinct laws, reaffirming that terrorists will be handled decisively. He stated that the issue of missing persons was being deliberately employed as a propaganda tool against the state and asserted that there is no forced disappearance occurring from the government’s side.

The Chief Minister emphasized that parliament is the nation’s highest institution and that all authority originates from it.

Bugti verified the arrest of an assistant of the banned BLA in Quetta and stated that approximately 2,000 people who aim to undermine the country would not be granted leniency. He further stated that investigations had discovered government workers among the suspects.

Addressing the kidnapping of two assistant commissioners, Bugti conceded it was troubling but confirmed that operations were underway, including one in Khalifat Hills the preceding night, to guarantee their safe rescue.

He asserted that security forces possess the capability to counter terrorism, while the provincial government will manage legal and administrative affairs.

Bugti stated that their doors are open to those willing to negotiate. He encouraged all political parties to oppose terrorism and acknowledge the state’s sacrifices in its suppression.
