Chief Minister (CM) of Balochistan, Sarfraz Bugti, has taken decisive action following the tragic coal mine explosion in Sanjdi. He ordered the immediate arrest of those responsible for the incident, emphasizing that negligence in such cases would not be tolerated.

Strict Measures Announced

During a press briefing, CM Bugti announced the suspension of the inspector linked to the mine and transferred the investigation to the Chief Minister Inspection Team (CMIT). He dismissed claims that security issues prevented inspectors from visiting mines, asserting that employees unwilling to perform their duties should resign.

“Those who cannot fulfill their responsibilities should step aside. The safety of workers cannot be compromised due to negligence,” Bugti said firmly.

Tragic Details of the Incident

The Sanjdi coal mine tragedy occurred on January 9 when a buildup of gas caused an explosion, leading to the collapse of the mine. Twelve miners were trapped inside and tragically lost their lives. The incident has once again highlighted the dire working conditions in Balochistan’s coal mining sector.

Accountability and Compensation

CM Bugti stressed the need to identify and punish those responsible for the accident. Additionally, he directed officials to ensure that compensation is paid promptly to the families of the deceased workers.

The CM’s strong response reflects the provincial government’s commitment to improving labor safety and addressing systemic issues in the mining sector.

A Call for Reform

This incident has underscored the critical need for better safety protocols and stricter oversight in Balochistan’s mining industry. With over a dozen lives lost, the tragedy serves as a grim reminder of the hazardous conditions faced by coal miners daily.
