Chase Burns Set for MLB Debut with Cincinnati Reds
Chase Burns, selected as the number two pick in the 2024 MLB draft, is scheduled to make his debut in the major leagues for the Cincinnati Reds next week, according to reports from international media sources on Sunday.
Burns is slated to compete against the New York Yankees at Great American Ball Park on Tuesday. He features a strong fastball that reaches the upper-90s, and his slider, clocked between 86 and 90 mph, is considered among the best breaking balls in the minor leagues.
Reds general manager Brad Meador stated that the team is focused on securing victories in every game and believes Burns enhances their chances of success. He further emphasized their commitment to providing Burns with full support.
Manager’s Perspective
“We are striving to maximize our potential to win and be competitive, and we currently believe that Chase offers us the optimal opportunity. It’s the right moment to proceed,” Meador commented.
“Determining the ideal timing is consistently the most challenging aspect. It’s difficult to be certain when a player is truly prepared,” he added.
He also noted that Burns, despite this being his first year in professional baseball, appears to be improving steadily.
“He has performed exceptionally well in his initial year of professional baseball, exceeding expectations. He seems to be growing stronger. Even when a player seems ready, uncertainty remains. However, he has successfully navigated every evaluation. I am confident he will not be overwhelmed by the circumstances,” Meador concluded.
This season, Burns demonstrated his dominance over Double-A Chattanooga, achieving a 6-1 record with a 1.29 ERA across eight starts before being promoted to Louisville.
