Eubank Sr Cancels Plans for Boxing Comeback
Chris Eubank Sr, the celebrated British boxing icon, has retracted his previous statement about potentially returning to the ring, according to recent reports.
The former two-weight world champion had initially declared on his YouTube channel a week prior that he would consider a comeback if his son, Eubank Jr, were to have a rematch with Conor Benn.
Eubank Sr had stated, “If you don’t get back into the ring Junior then neither will I. But if you get back into the ring, then I’m going to fight someone in some exhibition match.”
However, in a recent update, Eubank Sr, speaking on his YouTube channel, has now withdrawn that assertion. He clarified that he will not be resuming his professional boxing career and expressed that people had misinterpreted his initial remarks.
“I officially withdraw the statement I made about ‘fighting again’ if my son fights, as some people are taking it seriously.”
The allure of social media attention and potentially lucrative offers has prompted several retired boxers to make a return to the sport in recent years.
Notably, Mike Tyson returned to the ring to face Jake Paul last November, despite a significant age difference.
Roy Jones Jr, also in his 50s, has mentioned several potential opponents he would be willing to face.
In addition, former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs and Manny Pacquiao have also expressed interest in returning to boxing.
As of now, no official announcement has been made regarding a rematch between Benn and Eubank; however, a fight is contracted, and both fighters seem keen on making it happen.
