Pakistan and China Strengthen Commitment to Regional Stability

Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their dedication to boosting mutual cooperation, aiming to foster peace, stability, and progress in the region.

This resolution was emphasized during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Tianjin.

Both parties engaged in comprehensive discussions, primarily focusing on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and expanded multilateral collaboration.

Both dignitaries conveyed their satisfaction with the degree and advancement of the strategic alliance.

They lauded the robust Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, spotlighting the intimate coordination between the two nations across diverse sectors.

Pakistan’s Commitment to Regional Peace

Addressing the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Tianjin on Wednesday, Dar asserted Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to the regional truce and a stable security environment.

However, he cautioned that peace cannot be attained if coercion and aggression are permitted as standard instruments of statecraft.

“Today, Pakistan stands firm in its pledge to the ceasefire and the promotion of a balanced regional stability,” Dar stated. “However, we cannot condone the normalisation of the arbitrary use of force.”

Dialogue and Diplomacy

During his address, the foreign minister underscored that all disputes and disagreements must be addressed through dialogue and diplomatic means, rather than conflict and confrontation. He added that the initiation of extensive and structured discussion could effectively address the broad range of issues that have persistently plagued peace and security in South Asia.

Dar also highlighted the importance of strict adherence to bilateral agreements as a prerequisite for restoring regional confidence and preventing future escalations.

Tensions in South Asia

Referring to recent tensions in South Asia, Dar noted that Pakistan had adopted a measured and responsible stance despite provocative rhetoric and strategic recklessness from its neighbor.

“The events unfolding since April 22, 2025, also reaffirm a central truth of South Asian geopolitics… the peaceful settlement of the longstanding unresolved disputes is imperative for an enduring peace in the region,” he added.

He encouraged the SCO to remain a foundation for regional stability grounded in mutual respect and the sovereign equality of states, asserting that lasting peace necessitates resolving unresolved disputes through just and lawful means.

Pakistan, he mentioned, stands ready to collaborate with all regional partners under the SCO framework to advance peace, development, and connectivity through collective cooperation rather than confrontation.

Addressing Terrorism

He also spoke about the escalating terror activities worldwide, stating that terrorism is a shared concern of humanity that imperils global security.

All manifestations of terrorism, including state terrorism, are deplorable, he stated, adding, “We must reject the use of terrorism for political objectives and combat this threat through a cooperative approach, including addressing its fundamental causes.”
