Gittens Poised for Chelsea Medical

Chelsea has reportedly reached an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to acquire forward Jamie Gittens for a fee potentially reaching €65 million ($76.1m), according to international reports released on Saturday.

Sources indicate that Gittens initially agreed to a seven-year contract with Chelsea earlier in June. However, Dortmund declined a £42m offer, resulting in a stalemate before the initial transfer window closed on June 10.

Earlier in the week, both clubs engaged in discussions in the United States, coinciding with their participation in the Club World Cup, and these negotiations have reportedly gained traction recently.

The 20-year-old, identified as Chelsea’s primary target to succeed Jadon Sancho following his return to Manchester United after his loan period, is anticipated to undergo a medical evaluation at the Premier League club shortly.

Due to FIFA regulations, which limit the number of players added to Club World Cup squads to two, Gittens will be ineligible to represent Chelsea in the tournament. This restriction stems from his prior appearance as a substitute against Fluminense during the group stage.

The acquisition of Gittens would represent Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer, following the additions of striker Liam Delap, defender Mamadou Sarr, and midfielder Dario Essugo. Additionally, midfielder Andrey Santos is set to rejoin the squad after his loan stint at Strasbourg.

Chelsea is also reportedly pursuing a deal for Brighton forward João Pedro, with Newcastle also expressing interest. The West London club aims to bolster its attacking options further.

Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike and West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus are also reportedly being considered by Chelsea.
