Islamabad has launched a citywide crackdown on illegal garbage dumping as part of a renewed drive to improve sanitation standards and transform the federal capital into a model clean city. Acting under the Islamabad Solid Waste Regulations 2023, the Capital Development Authority is imposing strict fines on individuals and businesses found disposing of waste in open areas rather than at designated collection points.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa directed the civic body’s enforcement teams to impose penalties on hotels, restaurants, and other establishments littering outside their premises. To ensure compliance, the CDA will monitor key locations through Safe City cameras and compile daily reports on violations. This surveillance system aims to catch offenders in real time and build accountability across commercial zones.

The chairman also instructed officials to engage trade unions to encourage better cooperation from businesses and to ensure effective enforcement of these measures. This collaborative approach is intended to combine strict regulation with public participation to achieve lasting cleanliness in Islamabad.

According to CDA officials, a zero-tolerance policy has been adopted against littering across the city. By enforcing these measures, the authority not only seeks to maintain higher hygiene standards but also to address environmental concerns and improve the overall quality of life for residents.

These efforts represent another step in the CDA’s broader goal of making Islamabad a model clean city, demonstrating that strict enforcement combined with public awareness can significantly reduce illegal dumping and improve urban sanitation.
