Alcaraz Advances to Wimbledon’s Fourth Round After Hard-Fought Victory

LONDON: In a challenging match, defending Wimbledon victor Carlos Alcaraz triumphed over Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff with a score of 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, securing his place in the fourth round on Friday.

Alcaraz, who previously secured a win against Italian veteran Fabio Fognini in five sets and then dominated British player Oliver Tarvet, displayed inconsistent form, leaving spectators uncertain about which version of the Spaniard would appear.

Despite starting the match with a double fault and uncharacteristic errors on Centre Court, Alcaraz rallied to secure a spot against Andrey Rublev in the subsequent round.

After narrowly avoiding a break in his second service game, Alcaraz seized the initiative by breaking his opponent, establishing a 3-1 lead and ultimately clinching the opening set with a powerful ace on set point.

Struff exhibited a strong performance in the second set, successfully recovering from an initial break to level the match.

However, in the second game of the third set, a double fault by Struff provided Alcaraz with an opportunity to regain control, and the two-time Wimbledon champion maintained his advantage, concluding the set with another significant serve.

Alcaraz navigated through deuce in each of his initial four service games in the fourth set, capitalizing on Struff’s errors in the ninth game to secure his 21st consecutive tour-level match victory.

Meanwhile, Karen Khachanov of Russia overcame Nuno Borges of Portugal with a score of 7-6 (8), 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10), earning a spot in the round of 16.
