Tragic Accident at Karachi University Claims Student’s Life

A devastating incident occurred at the University of Karachi on Friday, resulting in the death of a female student. Aniqa Saeed was fatally struck by a university bus on the campus premises, according to police reports.

Saeed, identified as a second-year student in the Social Work Department, was disembarking from the bus when the unfortunate accident took place, officials stated. She was immediately transported to a medical facility, but sadly, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities have confirmed that the bus driver is now in custody. Furthermore, it has been reported that the bereaved family has chosen not to pursue any legal action regarding the incident.

The event has triggered widespread grief and indignation across the university campus. Students have organized demonstrations to voice their concerns to the university administration, emphasizing the need for enhanced transport safety measures and greater accountability.

Sindh Minister for Universities and Boards, Ismail Rahoo, has acknowledged the student’s passing as a deeply tragic event. He has requested a comprehensive report from the Vice Chancellor and mandated a formal investigation into the circumstances. Rahoo has assured that those found responsible will face severe repercussions and has conveyed his sincere condolences to the grieving family.

Governor of Sindh, Kamran Tessori, has also addressed the accident, instructing the Vice Chancellor to initiate an inquiry and submit a detailed account. He extended his deepest sympathies to the student’s family and directed law enforcement to conduct a thorough and exhaustive investigation.

The university administration released a statement expressing that the entire KU community is profoundly saddened by the loss of such a promising young individual.

Following the incident, the university’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, expressed his profound sorrow and personally visited the family to express his condolences and offer the university’s full assistance.

Dr. Iraqi has taken immediate action by suspending the bus driver and establishing a four-member investigative committee to determine the factors contributing to this tragic event. The committee is headed by Professor Dr. Naima Saeed, Chairperson of the Department of Criminology, and includes the transport in-charge from NED University, in addition to two students from the Department of Social Work.

The appointed committee is responsible for providing a detailed report to the Vice Chancellor, after which preventive strategies will be implemented to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
