California Senate Passes Resolution Celebrating Pakistan-US Ties

The California State Senate has unanimously adopted a historic resolution, passing with a 31-0 vote, that commemorates the enduring relationship between Pakistan and the United States. The resolution also acknowledges the significant contributions of the Pakistani-American community to California’s economy, society, and culture.

Introduced by Senator Melissa Hurtado, the youngest woman ever elected to the California State Senate and Chair of the State Senate Committee on Agriculture, the resolution underscores the long-standing and diverse connections linking Pakistan and the United States.

It recognises the crucial function of Pakistani-Americans in developing California, which has the fourth-largest economy in the world, and applauds their efforts in numerous fields.

Senator Melissa Hurtado stated during the presentation of the landmark resolution, “Today, I am pleased to acknowledge and celebrate the rich history of Pakistani-American relations and the numerous contributions Pakistani Americans have made to the state of California.”

“Their story embodies sacrifice, dignity, and perseverance,” the Senator noted.

The resolution emphasises the pride and cultural links of Pakistani-Americans, especially younger generations, which enhances their capacity to contribute significantly to California’s lively and diverse communities.

It also pays tribute to the people and organisations that have consistently backed and promoted Pakistani-American culture, customs, and accomplishments.

She emphasised that the partnership between the US and Pakistan goes beyond diplomacy and trade; it is founded on the common ideals of resilience, democracy, and human dignity.

Senator Hurtado stated, “As we reflect on Pakistan’s independence, we also recognise an enduring partnership between the United States and Pakistan, a relationship based not only on trade and diplomacy but also on shared values, resilience, democracy, and human dignity.”

The Senator, in recognising the presence of Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States, Rizwan Saeed Sheikh, during the proceedings, said, “Please join me in extending a warm welcome and our deepest gratitude to our guest for service, leadership, and commitment to strengthen the bonds between our nations.”

Ambassador Sheikh thanked Senator Hurtado for her leadership, recognising her and the Council of Pakistan’s essential roles in advancing the significant project.

He reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to strengthening interpersonal ties and expanding on the current positive trend in Pakistan-US relations.

The ambassador stated that the California Senate’s resolution commemorating Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day is a reflection of our strong ties, which go beyond the governmental level and permeate the populations of our two nations.

California, also referred to as “The Golden State,” is still a thriving global economic center and culturally diverse hub, enriched by Pakistani-Americans’ contributions.
