Subrayen’s Bowling Action Under Scrutiny During Australia Tour
CAIRNS: During the first One Day International (ODI) against Australia in Cairns on Tuesday, August 19, South African off-spinner Prenelan Subrayen had his bowling action reported as suspect, creating a challenge for the team.
Match officials communicated their worries about the legality of Subrayen’s deliveries in a report.
The 31-year-old, participating in his debut ODI, bowled his entire allotment of ten overs. He also took the important wicket of Travis Head, who was stumped as he tried to advance down the pitch.
Earlier in the year, Subrayen debuted in Test cricket against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, where he made a strong impression by capturing four wickets in the initial innings.
He is now obligated to participate in an independent evaluation of his bowling technique at an authorized ICC testing center.
This comes as an added setback for the Proteas, who are already missing their leading fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who is missing the three-game ODI series due to injury.
Despite this, South Africa started the ODI series successfully, winning the first game convincingly to take a 1-0 lead after suffering a close 1-2 defeat in the Twenty20 International series.
The two remaining ODIs are planned for August 22 and 24 in Mackay.
