INNOCSR Inaugurates Sustainable Brick Factory in Thatta

INNOCSR, a leading Korean firm specializing in sustainable construction technologies, has officially launched a Good Brick factory in Thatta, near Karachi, Pakistan. This factory represents a key advancement in INNOCSR’s objective to revolutionize the South Asian construction industry through the creation of eco-friendly, non-fired bricks.

The Good Bricks Thatta factory is financially backed by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute (KEITI) and receives support from various organizations, including UNIDO, the European Union, Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), Reserve Carbon, Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF), HANDS Pakistan, and NED University of Engineering & Technology in Karachi.

This collaborative initiative demonstrates the increasing dedication from both international and local entities to promote sustainable construction methods in Pakistan.

The inauguration ceremony saw participation from representatives of the EU, UNIDO, KOTRA, SPHF, and HANDS, alongside local academics and community leaders. Attendees were given an overview of the Good Brick technology and a guided tour of the facility, featuring a demonstration of the environmentally friendly brick production process.

Sam Yoonsuk Lee, CEO of InnoCSR, stated, “We are proud to broaden our presence in South Asia and introduce an environmentally sound alternative to conventional brick production. This facility in Thatta is a considerable stride toward realizing our vision of creating cleaner, more durable, and more sustainable construction practices.”

The Good Bricks Thatta factory is set to commence operations by providing bricks to SPHF’s beneficiaries for the rebuilding of flood-damaged structures in Sindh province. These structures include residential buildings and a community center. The undertaking seeks to assist in post-disaster recovery and establish a benchmark for upcoming sustainable construction endeavors throughout Pakistan.

Khalid Mehmood Shaikh, CEO of SPHF, remarked, “The Sindh Government, via SPHF, is spearheading the construction of 2.1 million residences, thereby creating the world’s most extensive housing project. As part of its dedication to sustainability, the Government is endorsing eco-friendly technologies and presently collaborating with Good Bricks to pilot green construction solutions.”

The Good Bricks System employs a unique soil stabilizer and avoids the use of coal or firing, which drastically cuts down on carbon emissions and air pollution.

This expansion is further supported by InnoCSR’s strategic investment from ADB Ventures, aimed at facilitating the company’s scaling up of clean brick manufacturing operations across South Asia.
