Teenager, Suspected Robber Killed in Karachi Gunfight

In Karachi’s Orangi Town, a 14-year-old boy and an alleged robber were killed in an exchange of gunfire on Wednesday night. The incident took place when robbers targeted a resident, leading to a deadly confrontation.

The deceased teenager was identified as Hussain. The tragic event unfolded during a robbery attempt in Orangi Town, within the jurisdiction of the Pakistan Bazaar police station.

According to law enforcement, two individuals on a motorcycle were attempting to rob a passerby. A local resident, Shahenshah Hasan, intervened and used his licensed firearm to engage the robbers.

One of the suspected robbers died at the scene, while the other managed to escape with injuries. Tragically, Hussain, the son of a man named Ali, was caught in the crossfire and fatally wounded.

Authorities recovered a weapon and ammunition from the deceased suspect. The licensed pistol of the citizen involved has been taken for forensic examination. Efforts to identify the suspect are ongoing as the investigation continues.

Family members stated that the shooting occurred near a mosque in the Gulshan-e-Bihar area.

The victim’s maternal uncle told reporters that the robbers tried to steal Hussain’s mobile phone. As Hussain attempted to stop the robber from fleeing, he was dragged and then shot multiple times.

Hussain was rushed to a nearby private hospital. Sadly, relatives reported that he died en route to the medical facility.

Hussain was the third of four siblings, and a Hafiz-e-Quran who was also pursuing religious studies to become an aalim.

The bereaved family has appealed to the government to deliver justice. Hussain’s brother also expressed his grief, demanding accountability for his younger brother’s death.

The incident has plunged the family and local community into shock and grief. Police have not yet released further details regarding their investigation into the robbery and the fatal shooting.

In a separate incident, a 50-year-old man named Irfan, who was injured while resisting a robbery on Tuesday in Korangi, passed away at the hospital on Wednesday.

Irfan was shot by robbers on a motorcycle near Noor-ul-Islam Masjid. He was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre but died during treatment.

According to Zaman Town SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi, the case, initially registered as attempted murder, will be updated to include murder charges following Irfan’s death. Police are actively pursuing the suspects using available technology.

With these recent fatalities, the number of individuals killed in Karachi due to robbers’ gunfire in 2024 has reached 33.
