Celtics Extend Joe Mazzulla’s Contract Following NBA Championship Win

BOSTON: The Boston Celtics have solidified their commitment to head coach Joe Mazzulla, announcing a multi-year contract extension on Friday.

This long-term pledge to the 37-year-old coach follows a remarkable season, highlighted by the franchise securing its 18th NBA championship, their first since 2008.

According to reports, specific financial terms and details of the contract extension have not been made public.

Celtics president Brad Stevens lauded Mazzulla’s leadership and dedication, recognizing his significant contributions over the past three years. Stevens described him as a ‘gifted leader’ and a crucial component of the Celtics’ triumph.

“He grasps the demands of the role and possesses a passion for the Celtics surpassed only by our most ardent supporters,” Stevens stated.

“He has demonstrated exceptional effort and achieved incredible milestones in his initial three years as head coach, including averaging over 60 victories per season and securing the 2024 NBA championship. This is an extraordinary achievement for any coach, especially one so early in their career.

“Joe is a talented leader consistently dedicated to learning, evolving, and maximizing every opportunity we have to compete for the Boston Celtics.”

Mazzulla officially assumed the position of head coach in February 2023, after initially serving as the interim coach earlier in the season.

Under his guidance, the Celtics have flourished, achieving an average of 57 wins per season and claiming the 2024 NBA title.

That victory also distinguished Mazzulla as the youngest head coach to secure an NBA Finals win since the legendary Bill Russell in 1969.

In a sincere statement, Mazzulla conveyed his appreciation for the contract extension, deeming it ‘a blessing.’

“I wouldn’t be where I am today without my faith, my wife, and my children,” he remarked.
