Motorcycle Stolen Outside Karachi Police Station
In a brazen instance of street crime, a resident of Karachi had his motorcycle pilfered from directly outside a police station while he was inside addressing an officer.
Law enforcement sources indicate the event transpired in Korangi, at the Al-Falah police precinct. The individual, identified as Shahid Iqbal, had arrived to confer with law enforcement personnel and had secured his 125cc motorcycle, bearing license plate KQT-6183, at the station entrance.
Upon his return, he discovered the motorcycle was gone, prompting immediate consternation within the police station.
Notably, just prior to the theft, the perpetrator had entered the station, greeted the officer on duty along with other staff, and feigned interest in lodging a complaint.
Upon inspecting the station’s surveillance footage, police personnel ascertained that the perpetrator executed the theft swiftly before making a quick escape.
The recording revealed the individual initially entering the duty officer’s area before the incident, feigning the reporting of a misplaced identification card, affording himself the chance to evaluate the station’s layout. Authorities are currently pursuing the suspect.
This occurrence arises amidst a more widespread issue of escalating street crime within Karachi. The Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) communicated on March 9 that a staggering 3,773 motorcycles and 195 automobiles were either seized or unlawfully taken in February alone.
Irrespective of law enforcement assertions of an approximate 21% decrease in overall crime figures for 2024, street crime persists as a matter of considerable concern. Perpetrators persist in unlawfully taking from and inflicting harm upon citizens, often resulting in fatalities, with little resistance.
During the preceding year, street criminals were responsible for the deaths of 106 individuals, including security staff, professionals, and civilians, while nearly 300 others suffered injuries.
