BCB to Distribute Ticket Revenue Based on Franchise Rankings
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced Monday a new revenue distribution strategy for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), intending to aid teams struggling with player payments from the previous season.
The decision was reached during a BPL governing council meeting in Dhaka. Last season saw payment problems arise when foreign players from the Durbar Rajshahi franchise protested unpaid dues by boycotting a match, while local players skipped training in solidarity.
Late payments resulted in some international players being stuck at their Dhaka hotel toward the end of the competition. Following multiple missed deadlines, the Bangladesh sports ministry intervened, urging team owner Shafiqur Rahman to resolve the matter.
Under the updated model, the BCB will allocate a segment of the tournament’s ticket revenue to the seven participating franchises, relative to their final position in the league standings.
The four teams that qualified for the playoffs in the previous season will each be granted about USD 45,000, and the remaining three teams will each secure roughly USD 36,000.
This marks the first instance of the BCB directly allocating ticket revenue to BPL franchises.
The distribution of payments is planned before Eid-ul-Adha, but is contingent on verifying that each team has fulfilled all outstanding player payments.
The BCB also issued a strict warning to franchises that fail to fulfill their payment responsibilities.
The amount distributed to each team will be proportionally adjusted according to the degree to which they have settled their pending payments in relation to their entitled share.
The BCB has also pledged to pursue legal action against any franchise that fails to meet payment requirements after several official warnings. This action demonstrates the BCB’s dedication to enforcing contractual accountability and protecting the BPL’s reputation.
