Lewandowski Facing Potential Three-Week Absence

FC Barcelona has suffered a setback as their key forward, Robert Lewandowski, may be sidelined for approximately three weeks due to a hamstring injury, potentially affecting their UEFA Champions League semi-final aspirations.

The 36-year-old Polish international sustained the injury during Barcelona’s 4-3 La Liga victory against Celta Vigo on Saturday. He was taken off the field, which raised immediate concerns about his fitness.

Barcelona released a statement confirming the injury: “Medical evaluations conducted this Sunday have verified that Robert Lewandowski has an injury affecting the semitendinosus muscle in his left thigh.”

The statement further noted, “His availability for team training will be determined by his recovery progress.”

Reports from the Spanish media indicate that Lewandowski, who has tallied 40 goals across all competitions this season, is anticipated to be unavailable for around three weeks.

This timeline suggests he would miss the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid in Seville next week and both legs of the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan, with the first leg scheduled for May 1 at their home stadium and the second leg on May 7 in Milan.

Besides these critical matches, the prolific goal scorer is also set to miss Barcelona’s upcoming La Liga games against Mallorca on Wednesday and Valladolid on Sunday.

Currently, Barcelona holds the top spot in La Liga, followed by Real Madrid in second place and Atletico Madrid in third, just ahead of Athletic Club.

The Catalan team is aiming for a quadruple title win, having already clinched the Spanish Super Cup in January and still competing for a domestic cup final and a European semi-final.
