Rahmat Shah Injury Update
Afghanistan’s Rahmat Shah is unlikely to participate in the decisive third ODI against Bangladesh due to a calf injury sustained during the second match of the series.
Rahmat, having initially retired hurt, demonstrated resilience by returning to the field after Afghanistan lost their ninth wicket. However, his return was short-lived as he faced just one delivery before collapsing in distress.
Team physiotherapist Nirmalan Thanabalasingam immediately attended to Rahmat, who was unable to stand and subsequently required a wheelchair to leave the field.
The crowd showed their support with a heartfelt ovation upon his return. His brief appearance concluded when a googly from Rishad Hossain struck him in the abdomen, preventing him from continuing.
“Unfortunately, Rahmat has succumbed to his injury and will be out. We will conduct all the necessary imaging tomorrow. It seems he will be sidelined for a while,” Thanabalasingam stated, indicating Rahmat’s likely absence from the third ODI.
Rahmat recently achieved the milestone of becoming the first Afghan batter to surpass 4,000 ODI runs and played a crucial role with a half-century in the series’ opening match.
In related news, Afghanistan secured the three-match series with a 2-0 lead after a convincing 81-run victory in the second ODI. Ibrahim Zadran’s determined 95-run innings and Rashid Khan’s remarkable five-wicket performance were instrumental in the visitor’s triumph.
Afghanistan, batting first, posted 190 runs before being bowled out in 44.5 overs. Bangladesh’s response faltered, as their batting lineup collapsed for a mere 109 in 28.3 overs, overwhelmed by Rashid’s masterful spin bowling.
The third ODI is scheduled to take place at the same venue on Tuesday.
