Das Appointed to Captain Bangladesh for T20I Series, Mahedi Named Vice-Captain
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has revealed its 16-member team for the forthcoming T20I series in both the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Pakistan.
Following Najmul Hossain Shanto’s departure from the captaincy earlier this year, seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das has been officially designated as the T20I captain for Bangladesh for these upcoming tours.
The role of Das’s second-in-command for the UAE and Pakistan series will be filled by off-spinner Mahedi Hasan.
Notably, Das previously captained Bangladesh in a three-game T20I series against the West Indies in December of the previous year, stepping in due to an injury that sidelined Shanto.
The 30-year-old cricketer’s leadership experience includes one Test match, seven ODIs, and four T20Is for Bangladesh.
Das was recently signed to the Karachi Kings for the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 but had to withdraw from the competition due to a finger injury he sustained during training.
Meanwhile, Shanto makes his return to Bangladesh’s T20I squad alongside Towhid Hridoy, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, and Shoriful Islam.
Bangladesh is scheduled to begin with a tour of the UAE for two T20I matches, which will be held in Sharjah on May 17 and 19.
Following the UAE matches, the team will proceed to Pakistan for a five-match series scheduled from May 25 to June 3.
