Bangladesh to Face Hong Kong in Asia Cup 2025 Opener
SYLHET: Mohammad Salahuddin, the assistant coach for the Bangladesh cricket squad, affirmed on Sunday that the team will not undergo any experimental changes or significant alterations in its lineup leading up to the Asia Cup.
Addressing the media before the second T20I match against the Netherlands, Salahuddin underscored the significance and intensity of international cricket.
“This level isn’t really for experiments. This is international cricket. In a practice match, I might have explored different options, but international cricket doesn’t allow such room. My priority is making decisions that secure victory, and that’s what I’ll aim for,” he stated.
Salahuddin dismissed the idea of complacency, emphasizing the need for continuous improvement within the squad.
“Satisfaction has no place in our profession. We must strive to improve every day,” he remarked.
He further highlighted the ongoing challenges in international cricket.
“International cricket is demanding. Each moment presents fresh challenges, impacting gameplay, strategic thinking, and situational awareness. Complacency isn’t an option,” Salahuddin added.
The assistant coach acknowledged that the extended preparation time before the series offered a unique advantage.
“The extended preparation phase allowed us to thoroughly address all facets, including fitness, fielding, and batting,” he mentioned.
“Typically, international matches have limited downtime, hindering players’ personal skill development. This time, we capitalized on the opportunity, which is beneficial for us,” he further explained.
Salahuddin also lauded the players’ enhanced mental fortitude and technical skills.
“Ultimately, the players’ growth into accomplished cricketers is what counts. An abundance of coaching staff doesn’t guarantee favorable results.
“Player performance, improvement, and strategic thinking are paramount. I’ve witnessed substantial progress in these areas, and I anticipate further advancements in the future,” he commented.
He expressed particular admiration for Saif Hassan’s return to international cricket after a two-year absence.
“Avoid prematurely elevating or dismissing players. A player’s successful comeback reflects a robust mindset.
“Despite being labeled primarily as a Test player and perceived as unsuitable for white-ball cricket, he defied expectations and showcased his resilience, a feat not easily achieved,” Salahuddin observed.
“International cricket is rigorous, and initial setbacks are common. Mentally recovering from such setbacks is challenging. His ability to do so underscores his strong character.
“He dedicated himself to personal improvement, leading to his ongoing development. I hope he sustains the character displayed in the previous match, given the demanding nature of this format. Consistent performance over time is key to success,” he concluded.
Notably, Bangladesh, positioned in Group B, will commence their Asia Cup 2025 journey against Hong Kong on September 11, followed by matches against Sri Lanka and Afghanistan on September 13 and 16, respectively.
