Simmons Confident in Team’s Potential for Quality Cricket
LAHORE: Despite missing several prominent players, Bangladesh’s head coach, Phil Simmons, expressed optimism about his team’s chances in the forthcoming series against Pakistan.
Speaking with reporters in Lahore, Simmons conveyed his belief in the team’s capacity to exhibit high-caliber cricket.
“This presents an excellent chance for us to engage in intense cricket,” remarked Simmons. “Pakistan is a formidable opponent, and we are approaching this series with utmost seriousness.”
Acknowledging Pakistan’s recent inconsistency, the former West Indies player highlighted the team’s fundamental strength.
“While there’s talk about Pakistan’s recent form, they remain a team capable of defeating any opponent,” he stated.
Simmons, aged 62, also noted the contribution of players with Pakistan Super League (PSL) experience, who have offered valuable insights into the local conditions.
“Several of our players have participated in the PSL, providing useful information regarding the conditions here,” he added.
Simmons mentioned that the absence of seasoned players provides an avenue for emerging talent to shine.
“When senior players are unavailable, it opens doors for younger players. Often, one of them emerges as a significant discovery,” he commented. “Mustafizur Rahman is a key player for our team, and unfortunately, he won’t be participating in this series.”
Despite this setback, Simmons remains positive.
“We will feel the absence of our key players, but we are committed to delivering a strong performance with the current team,” he affirmed.
Reflecting on past experiences, Simmons expressed his fondness for Pakistan.
“I cherish the memories of playing in Pakistan; it has always been a special place for me,” he shared.
He also welcomed Shaun Tait, former Australian fast bowler, to the coaching staff, lauding it as a beneficial move for the team.
“We are aiming to elevate our cricket by performing well in this series,” he concluded.
The national squad continued its preparations at Gaddafi Cricket Stadium, engaging in batting, bowling, and fielding sessions under the guidance of coaches. Prior to net practice, they underwent fitness and exercise routines. Players involved in the PSL 10 final were granted a rest day.
All three T20Is will be held at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, on May 28, May 30, and June 1.
