Australia Clinches Series Victory Over West Indies

Australia secured a convincing 133-run triumph against the West Indies on the fourth day of the second Test in Grenada. This victory ensures that Australia retains the Frank Worrell Trophy, a title they have continuously held since 1995.

The West Indies team faltered, being dismissed for a mere 143 during the afternoon session while pursuing a target of 277.

Australia commenced the day with a score of 255/7 but managed to add only 22 runs to their overnight total.

Despite optimistic remarks from the West Indies team the previous evening, the chase was always expected to be challenging, and it quickly evolved into a one-sided contest.

The West Indies suffered the loss of four wickets within the initial 13 overs before the lunch break. A remarkable delivery from Pat Cummins bowled Brandon King, dislodging his off stump.

Mitchell Starc spearheaded the bowling attack, claiming 3 wickets for 24 runs. He now has 395 career wickets as he approaches his 100th Test in Jamaica.

Nathan Lyon concluded the match with an impressive return catch. He is now just one wicket away from equalling Glenn McGrath’s record of 563, positioning him as Australia’s second-highest Test wicket-taker.

Australia’s pace bowlers adeptly exploited the favorable conditions of the fresh pitch. The new ball caused considerable trouble, with deliveries exhibiting unpredictable bounce, which consistently troubled the West Indies batsmen.

Although Roston Chase and Shai Hope briefly counterattacked after lunch, the hosts never appeared likely to achieve a comeback. A total of thirteen wickets were lost in just 41.3 overs throughout the day.

The match mirrored the pattern of the previous Test in Barbados, where the West Indies showed early competitiveness but lost momentum as the game progressed.

Crucial second-innings performances from Cameron Green and Steven Smith significantly shifted the momentum in Australia’s favor this time.

Josh Hazlewood capitalized on the helpful surfaces early on, dismissing John Campbell lbw with his second delivery.

Keacy Carty, who survived an early drop, endured a difficult innings before edging a Starc delivery to the slips.

Former captain Kraigg Brathwaite’s struggles continued as he recorded his fourth single-digit score of the series.

King, after showing promise with some well-executed shots, was undone by Cummins’ delivery that angled in sharply.

Following lunch, Chase and Hope attempted to counterattack aggressively, employing aerial shots. However, this risky approach was short-lived. Hope was caught off a top-edged shot, and Chase was dismissed lbw.

Justin Greaves was bowled by a delivery from Starc, while Alzarri Joseph’s two consecutive sixes off Lyon were followed by a catch from Green.

Shamar Joseph provided some late resistance with three sixes before Lyon eventually dismissed him.

Australia now leads the series 2-0. The final Test, a day-night match, is scheduled to commence on July 12 at Sabina Park in Jamaica.
