Finance Minister Embarks on US Trip for Trade Discussions
The Finance Minister, Muhammad Aurangzeb, traveled to the United States on Monday for the purpose of finalizing trade discussions between Pakistan and the US, according to an official statement from the Finance Ministry.
The ministry further noted that the ultimate discussions pertaining to the Pakistan-US trade dialogue are slated to take place during this visit.
“Substantial prospects exist for collaboration between the two nations in vital sectors, including information technology, minerals, and agriculture,” the statement highlighted.
Pakistan has actively pursued a trade agreement with the US following President Donald Trump’s announcement earlier this year regarding reciprocal tariffs on various countries.
Formal discussions between Pakistan and the US concerning these reciprocal tariffs were initiated in May. Both countries exchanged perspectives with the understanding that detailed technical-level discussions would ensue in the coming weeks.
The Finance Ministry stated on Monday that the establishment of a trade agreement between the two countries would be mutually advantageous for their respective economies.
“Robust trade and economic relations constitute a crucial element of Pakistan-US bilateral ties.
“The United States stands as Pakistan’s foremost trading partner.
“Pakistan is eager to broaden bilateral trade relations to encompass both conventional and emerging sectors,” the statement conveyed.
Recent times have seen an improvement in bilateral relations between Pakistan and the US.
