Tragic Shooting Incident in Lower Kurram Claims Multiple Lives
LOWER KHURRAM: In a distressing event, at least six individuals lost their lives following an attack on a passenger van by unidentified armed individuals in the Lower Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), as confirmed by law enforcement authorities on Wednesday.
The tragic episode unfolded in the Ahmad Khan Kale region, where the passenger van, en route from Para Chamkani to Sadda, was ambushed by the assailants.
According to regional police sources, the motivation underpinning the assault remains unclear at this juncture. Reinforcements have been deployed to the area as a comprehensive investigation is underway to ascertain the facts.
Law enforcement personnel transported the deceased to the tehsil headquarters hospital in Sadda to fulfill necessary medico-legal procedures.
Hameed Hussain, a Member of the National Assembly (MNA), voiced strong condemnation of the violent act. He expressed disbelief that such occurrences could transpire in a generally peaceful locale like Ahmad Khan Kale. He further suggested that the attack seemed to be a component of a deliberate scheme aimed at instigating disturbance. Hussain appealed to the local population to resist such attempts and to actively bolster endeavors aimed at maintaining peace.
In a separate response, leaders representing the Turi Bangash tribes jointly denounced the incident, imploring the government to launch an exhaustive investigation and pursue legal action against those implicated.
Kurram has been troubled by inter-tribal conflict rooted in long-standing property disputes. The strife, which resulted in at least 130 fatalities in the prior year, has seen a noticeable intensification recently.
A truce was brokered in January of the current year, succeeded by a comprehensive peace accord in July involving the Lower Kurram and Sadda tribes.
