Atlas Honda to Introduce Electric Scooter in Pakistan

Atlas Honda declared on Tuesday its intention to introduce an electric scooter designed specifically for Pakistani consumers within the ongoing fiscal year.

According to an official statement submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), this decision follows the government’s unveiling of the National Electric Vehicle Policy.

The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, Haroon Akhtar Khan, stated that the new EV policy is in line with the prime minister’s objective to promote environmentally friendly, sustainable, and accessible transportation, while also fostering local industry and safeguarding the environment.

Akhtar mentioned that a key goal of the policy is to ensure that electric vehicles constitute 30% of all new vehicle sales in Pakistan by 2030.

This shift is anticipated to result in annual fuel savings of 2.07 billion litres, translating to approximately $1 billion in foreign exchange savings.

Honda has stated it is collaborating closely with regulatory authorities to obtain the necessary permissions and approvals for a seamless launch.

In its notification to the PSX, the company stated that it intends to launch the product during the current financial year after completing required quality and road tests.

Honda has previously evaluated electric vehicles (EVs). In 2023, the company presented its ‘BENLEY e’ electric scooter at its Sheikhupura factory during a preliminary launch event.
