Lahore Qalandars to Clash with Karachi Kings in PSL 10 Eliminator on May 22
LAHORE: Asif Ali, the seasoned middle-order batsman representing Lahore Qalandars in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, has offered his perspective ahead of their critical match against Karachi Kings.
Speaking before the Eliminator, which is set to take place at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on May 22, Asif acknowledged the increased pressure that comes with the knockout stage. However, he voiced his faith in the professionalism of all participating players.
“Given that it’s a knockout stage and a significant match, pressure is inevitable,” Asif stated. “Nevertheless, all athletes are seasoned professionals, and I’m confident that no one will allow the pressure to hinder their performance.”
The right-handed batter also shared his views on the team’s composition and their recent showings.
“With the current team lineup, we anticipate playing quality cricket. Our batting performance in the preceding matches wasn’t up to par. A revised team structure has been implemented, and we hope to maintain this arrangement. Sam Billings’ contributions were noteworthy, and the departure of such a player inevitably impacts the team’s equilibrium,” he noted.
Reflecting on previous setbacks, the middle-order batsman stressed the significance of extracting lessons from errors.
“When a match is lost, we analyze the shortcomings and dedicate efforts to rectifying them. Each player harbors individual aspirations, and my attention is firmly fixed on the upcoming contests. Should Pakistan or the selectors require my services, I stand prepared to contribute,” he affirmed.
The 33-year-old also addressed speculations concerning a potential return to international cricket.
“I am actively engaged in playing cricket but haven’t given substantial thought to a comeback, nor is it my immediate priority. Had the selectors deemed my presence necessary, they would have extended an invitation. My perception is that my services are not presently required,” Asif mentioned.
“I recently commemorated a special event, but I remain grounded, with my focus firmly fixed on my game,” he concluded.
Notably, the two-time PSL champions, Lahore Qalandars, under the leadership of Shaheen Afridi, clinched their spot in the playoffs after securing the fourth position in the points table.
They concluded the group stage with a record of five victories, four defeats, and one match abandoned due to rain in 10 encounters.
