Archer Aims to Compete in Remaining India Tests and The Ashes
LONDON: Following England’s remarkable 22-run victory against India in the third Test of the five-match series at Lord’s, Jofra Archer has turned his attention to The Ashes, scheduled for later this year. The returning fast bowler played a crucial role in the match.
Archer, making his first Test appearance in over four years due to elbow and back problems, celebrated his return with a significant contribution to England’s thrilling win, achieving match figures of 5/105.
The right-arm bowler quickly made an impact by dismissing India’s opening batsman, Yashasvi Jaiswal, with only his third delivery. His most notable performance came in the second innings, where he took the important wickets of Jaiswal, the in-form wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, and Washington Sundar.
After his impressive performance at Lord’s, Jofra Archer stated his commitment to participating in the two remaining matches to assist England in securing the series. He also expressed his strong desire to compete in The Ashes, which is set to begin on November 21.
“If I am allowed, I am ready to play the other two [against India]. I am determined not to lose this series. I conveyed to Rob Key [England men’s managing director] my wish to participate in the Test summer and The Ashes,” Archer mentioned in a post-match discussion.
“I believe one objective is already achieved, and I will exert every effort to ensure I am on the flight in November.”
It is worth noting that Archer has sufficient time to prepare for the second-to-last Test, which is scheduled to commence on July 23 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
