Boxer Aliya Soomro’s Harassment Case: Parents Decline Further Legal Proceedings

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) City Arif Aziz stated on Tuesday that the parents of renowned boxer Aliya Soomro have refused to pursue further legal action after their daughter reported harassment and threats against herself and her family.

Soomro initially revealed these allegations on Sunday through an Instagram video, where she described being harassed by an individual she identified as a ‘facilitator of the Lyari gang war’ who was ‘impersonating a media worker’.

“I urge everyone not to involve me in political and ethnic disputes, as well as conflicts among boxing organizations. Why is such extensive pressure being applied against me? My family and I are in danger,” she expressed.

The boxer appealed to the Sindh Police chief for assurance of her safety and protection from these threats.

Responding swiftly to her video message, South DIG Syed Asad Raza directed City SSP Arif Aziz to immediately investigate the matter and take necessary actions against those involved in the harassment and threats.

A statement released by South Zone Police indicated that they contacted Aliya Soomro to offer their full support, emphasizing that “the boxer represents the courageous women of Pakistan and is a role model.”

The statement further quoted the DIG, “Women have the right to advance in all areas of life. The police will provide Aliya Soomro with every possible safeguard.”

In a recent update, City SSP Aziz disclosed that Aliya Soomro received threats via WhatsApp, with an unidentified individual demanding money.

SSP Aziz reaffirmed the Sindh Police’s dedication to ensuring Soomro’s security, while also noting her parents’ decision not to pursue additional legal remedies.
