Ali Raza Dismisses Health Concerns, Focuses on Cricket Career
LAHORE: Young fast bowler Ali Raza has refuted the swirling speculations regarding his health, stating that he is in peak physical condition and eager to leave a lasting impact on Pakistan’s cricket scene.
While engaging with the media during the PCB’s Skills Enhancement Program held in Lahore, the 17-year-old underscored his resolve through diligent effort and unwavering confidence.
“My strength lies in dedicated practice and a strong belief in myself. I am perfectly healthy and have no vision impairments,” Raza clarified, addressing rumors about a supposed eye ailment.
Previously, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released a formal announcement, firmly dismissing the ongoing rumors as unfounded.
“Ali Raza is free from any eye-related disease and is eligible for selection across all game formats,” a PCB representative stated.
The young bowler, currently participating in his inaugural national camp, conveyed his enthusiasm for gaining knowledge from experienced experts and honing his abilities.
“I am giving my all in front of everyone at the camp. I am gaining significant insights here—this marks my first camp, and I am focused on overcoming my shortcomings,” Raza mentioned.
“Receiving praise from a cricket figure like Ian Bishop is a great honor. I am also committed to demonstrating that Ian Bishop’s commendation is warranted,” he further added.
Inspired by Pakistan’s celebrated fast bowlers, the right-arm bowler unveiled his future ambitions:
“The velocity of Shoaib Akhtar, the swing of Wasim Akram, and the precise yorkers of Waqar Younis are renowned. I aspire to cultivate similar attributes and establish myself as a top-tier bowler. I aim to be remembered for my capabilities and learn how to adjust my bowling technique to suit diverse environments.”
The emerging talent also recognized the backing of former Pakistan captain and current Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam in his progression.
“I am committed to delivering my utmost for the nation. Babar Azam provided considerable support to me during the PSL,” he concluded.
Notably, Raza recently garnered attention due to his outstanding showing in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, playing for Peshawar Zalmi.
He captured 12 wickets across nine matches, maintaining an average of 25.25 and an economy rate of 9.18—performances that earned accolades from both supporters and selectors.
