Pakistan Squad, Led by Agha, Gears Up for Afghanistan in Tri-Series Opener
SHARJAH: Prior to the T20I tri-series against Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as well as the forthcoming ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025, Pakistan’s T20I captain, Salman Ali Agha, conveyed his contentment with the team’s advancement on Thursday.
Agha spoke at a joint press conference featuring captains from participating teams on the eve of the T20I tri-series. He expressed his support for the team’s displays in the previous two series, which included away matches against Bangladesh and the West Indies.
Pakistan experienced a defeat in Bangladesh but clinched a 2-1 victory against the West Indies, who have been champions twice.
“Our squad has demonstrated strong performances in the preceding series. Our mindset is always focused on securing a victory when we compete,” Agha stated.
The all-rounder also responded to criticism aimed at the national team, emphasizing that it is currently undergoing a restructuring phase and is committed to delivering its best on the field.
“Former players and supporters are welcome to share their perspectives, and we value their opinions. As we assemble a fresh team, we are determined to exhibit quality cricket,” he added.
The approaching Asia Cup marks Agha’s inaugural major tournament as the national team’s captain, and the 31-year-old expressed enthusiasm for embracing this ‘responsibility’.
He dismissed worries regarding the intense heat in Sharjah, the venue for the upcoming tri-series from August 29 to September 7, asserting that the players’ form is steadily improving, guiding the national team in a positive direction.
“Serving as a team captain is both a privilege and a duty. The hot climate in Sharjah does not pose a concern.
“Excuses cannot be made based on weather conditions. Our performance is progressively improving with each passing day, indicating that the national team is on the correct course,” he concluded.
