Afghanistan Secures First Win, Climbs to Second in T20I Series
SHARJAH: In the ongoing tri-nation T20I series, Afghanistan clinched their first victory by defeating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with a margin of 38 runs. The match, held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, saw Afghanistan dominate on Monday.
This win propelled Afghanistan to the second position in the points table.
Pakistan currently holds the top spot, having won both of their matches. The UAE, however, remains without a win after participating in two games.
Points Table: Pakistan, Afghanistan, UAE T20I Tri-Series
After electing to bat first, the Afghanistan team, led by Rashid Khan, achieved a total of 188-4 in 20 overs. This was largely due to impressive half-centuries from Sediqullah Atal and Ibrahim Zadran.
Zadran was the highest scorer, accumulating 63 runs from 40 balls, which included three 4s and four 6s. Atal contributed 54 runs off 40 balls, hitting four boundaries and three sixes.
Azmatullah Omarzai added 20 runs in 12 balls, while Karim Janat gave a late surge with 23 runs from just 10 balls.
In response, the UAE team could only manage 150-8. Despite strong efforts from captain Muhammad Waseem and wicketkeeper-batter Rahul Chopra, they fell short of the target.
Waseem hit 67 runs off 37 balls, which included four 4s and six 6s, while Chopra remained not out with 52 runs from 35 balls, including three boundaries and three 6s.
The remaining batsmen, however, did not provide adequate support, with only Ethan D’Souza (12) reaching a double-digit score.
The Afghan team is scheduled to play their next match against Pakistan at the same venue on Tuesday.
