New Customs Values Set for Apple iPhones, Including iPhone 16 Models
The Directorate General of Customs Valuation Karachi has established revised customs values for 187 distinct Apple iPhone models, encompassing the latest iPhone 16 series.
A new valuation ruling (1999 of 2025) was issued on Friday by the directorate. The customs values for the iPhone 16 range from US$591 to US$1469 per unit, contingent on the specific model.
The updated ruling incorporates various iPhone 16 categories and allows for depreciation on older models. It specifies that the new customs values will apply to imports of 16 different iPhone 16 versions. Other iPhones covered include the iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13, iPhone 12, and iPhone 11, along with earlier models.
The ruling indicated that the Directorate had received communication from the Collectorate of Customs (Airport) Islamabad, in addition to feedback from multiple stakeholders, regarding the necessity to update the existing Valuation Ruling and integrate the latest iPhone 16 Apple devices across different variants. The previous Valuation Ruling was over a year old, with customs values no longer reflecting the existing international market. Select older models mentioned in the existing ruling had reached their End of Life (EOL) and needed to be considered for depreciation. Consequently, an analysis of import data, current market trends, price variations, and customs values was conducted to determine the customs values of the specified goods under Sections 25 and 25A of the Customs Act, 1969.
Several meetings were held to determine customs values, attended by relevant stakeholders. Stakeholders requested that the values of the latest iPhone 16 models be incorporated and older models be depreciated accordingly.
Their perspectives were carefully considered to determine the customs values of the specified goods under Section 25A of the Customs Act, 1969. Stakeholders were asked to provide relevant import documents to support their claims. To establish customs values, data from a ninety (90) day period was obtained and rigorously examined. Some declared value references were available.
The ruling stated that the transaction value of the specified phones has been determined and will serve as the Customs value for duty and tax assessment.
