Digital Payment Expansion Announced by PM Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared on Monday a sweeping initiative to enhance digital transactions nationwide. This involves integrating provincial systems into a single, cohesive national digital framework.

During a ceremony acknowledging key contributors to the Prime Minister’s Ramazan Relief Package’s accomplishments, Sharif emphasized the role of contemporary payment solutions in revolutionizing fund distribution. He noted these methods enhance fund transfer speed, increase transparency, and uphold the dignity of beneficiaries.

He stated, “Digital wallets facilitated the seamless distribution of 79% of the relief funds without complications,” criticizing the former system’s inefficiencies.

Looking ahead to the upcoming year, he pledged that 100% of disbursements would be conducted digitally, ensuring optimal utilization of relief funds through advanced technology.

He further mentioned that the upgrade would continue, with provincial governments gradually being incorporated into the national digital payment structure.

Amir Ahmed Ali, the Federal Secretary of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), delivered a detailed briefing on the achievements of the Ramazan Relief Package and the critical function of digital wallets in its execution.

The prime minister also recognized essential personnel from both the public and private sectors, bestowing honorary shields upon those whose contributions were vital to the program’s triumph.
