The book “Seat 1C: A Survivor’s Tale of Hope, Resilience of Renewal” by Zafar Masud, a survivor of the PIA crash, was presented at a “MILKAR” event in Karachi on Saturday.
The Mir Khalil-ur-Rehman Foundation (MKRF) and the British Asian Trust jointly initiated “MILKAR,” a national campaign designed to tackle mental health challenges across Pakistan, last year.
The “MILKAR” campaign seeks to generate awareness, eliminate stigma, highlight warning signs, showcase success stories, and improve access to mental health resources.
Masud, one of the two individuals who survived the PIA plane crash in Karachi in 2020, explores the effects of traumatic events on people’s lives in his book. His post-accident experiences, path to recovery, and personal story are also covered.
The event was attended by a diverse group of people.
On May 22, 2020, a PIA flight, PK-8303, traveling from Lahore to Karachi, tragically crashed in Karachi’s Model Colony, resulting in the deaths of 97 passengers and crew members. Two passengers miraculously survived the disaster.
Muhammad Zubair, the other survivor of the plane crash, recounted the horrific events, saying, “The entire plane was engulfed in flames, and I survived against all odds.”
He added, “I still find it hard to believe that I was able to walk to the hospital after the accident.”
Zubair stated, “Even now, I experience fear during takeoffs and landings.”
