Xiaomi Refutes Delay Rumors for YU7 Electric SUV Launch
Xiaomi has refuted claims regarding a postponement of the release of its highly anticipated YU7 electric SUV. The company affirmed that the vehicle is still slated to debut in either June or July, aligning with CEO Lei Jun’s previous statement.
Wang Hua, who is in charge of Xiaomi’s public relations, addressed the speculation on their personal Weibo account, confirming that the launch timeline “had not been revised.”
This announcement counters a report indicating that Xiaomi would not commence sales of the YU7 electric SUV within the initially projected June-July window, with no replacement launch date established.
Last week, Xiaomi disappointed both enthusiasts and market analysts by revealing that the YU7 electric SUV, designed to rival Tesla’s popular Model Y, would not be showcased at the Shanghai auto show.
During the previous year’s auto show held in Beijing, the Chinese technology conglomerate garnered significant attention, presenting its newly announced SU7 sedan.
In contrast, Xiaomi has adopted a more subdued approach this year, foregoing a press conference and exclusively displaying its SU7 and SU7 Ultra models.
Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s prominent founder, was notably absent from the Shanghai event’s opening. Last year in Beijing, Lei commanded considerable attention, drawing crowds of photographers.
A Xiaomi representative stated that Lei was unable to attend the Shanghai show due to a scheduling conflict.

“He is still monitoring the Shanghai auto show and promoting it on his Weibo,” the spokesperson added.
Last month, the company faced scrutiny following a fatal incident involving an SU7, which resulted in a fire and the deaths of the driver and two passengers after colliding with a roadside pole at 97 kph (60 mph) while operating on its advanced driving assistance system.
