Worcestershire Secures Victory Over Leicestershire in Vitality Blast
WORCESTER: Ethan Brookes’ explosive batting display, combined with effective bowling from Tom Taylor and Khurram Shahzad, propelled Worcestershire to a convincing six-wicket triumph against Leicestershire in their Vitality Blast match held in Worcester this past Sunday.
Leicestershire, after winning the toss, elected to bat and managed to compile a total of 173/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Ben Cox, the wicketkeeper-batter, stood out for the visiting side, crafting a superb innings of 70 runs from 44 deliveries, decorated with eight boundaries and one six.
Louis Kimber and Rehan Ahmed also made significant contributions, each scoring 32 runs. However, Shan Masood, the Pakistani player, had a disappointing performance, only scoring five runs before getting out.
Worcestershire’s bowling effort was spearheaded by Tom Taylor, who claimed 3/25 in his four overs.
Pakistani fast bowler Khurram Shahzad showcased his economical bowling, conceding just 34 runs and picking up one wicket in his four overs. Ben Dwarshuis and Adam Finch supported well, each taking one wicket.
In their chase, Worcestershire comfortably reached the target of 174 runs, scoring 174/4 in 17.5 overs.
Ethan Brookes played a pivotal innings, smashing 56 runs off 28 balls, studded with five sixes and four fours, to guide his team to victory.
Isaaq Mohammed contributed a brisk 29 off 21 balls, while Gareth Roderick (26) and captain Brett D’Oliveira (23) offered valuable stability in the middle order.
For Leicestershire, Tom Scriven bowled efficiently, securing 2/22 in four overs. Sam Wood and Rehan Ahmed each took one wicket, but their efforts proved insufficient to contain Worcestershire’s dominant batting performance.
Currently, Worcestershire occupies the fifth position in the points table, having played 13 matches, with six victories and seven defeats.
