Williamson Identifies Future Stars and Admits Shot Envy
New Zealand’s accomplished batsman, Kane Williamson, has unveiled his selections for the next generation of elite cricketers, affectionately termed the ‘Fab Five,’ spotlighting two emerging Indian talents and a fellow Kiwi.
Williamson, who was recruited by Karachi Kings for the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10, is currently in India fulfilling his commentary commitments for the high-profile Indian Premier League (IPL).
During his stay, the right-handed batsman, currently considered part of the ‘Fab Four’ alongside India’s Virat Kohli, Australia’s Steve Smith, and England’s Joe Root, was tasked with naming four batsmen poised to constitute the esteemed group in the years ahead.
Although prompted to name four players, Williamson expanded his selection to five.
“The five players that come to mind are Yashasvi Jaiswal (India), Shubman Gill (India), Rachin Ravindra (New Zealand), Harry Brook (England), and Cameron Green from Australia,” Williamson stated in an interview with an Indian news outlet.
The former captain of New Zealand also interacted with fans during his India visit and, in a candid exchange, was asked which shot he would most like to replicate from another batsman.
Williamson swiftly responded, choosing Kohli’s flick shot over his own renowned cover drive.
“I think it would be Virat Kohli’s flick off his legs,” Kane Williamson remarked.
The 34-year-old also voiced his admiration for Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, noting that he grew up idolizing Tendulkar’s batting prowess.
“My cricketing idol was a guy who played at the maidan (ground) we were just at, actually. Sachin Tendulkar, he is the legend. He’s still playing sometimes, I see,” the 34-year-old added.
