Altercation Erupts Between Cricketers During Unofficial Test
MIRPUR: An on-field clash marred the four-day match between South Africa and Bangladesh Emerging sides at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Wednesday. The incident involved South Africa’s batting all-rounder Tshepo Ntuli and Bangladesh’s lower-order batter Ripon Mondol.
Incident Details
The confrontation unfolded on the second day of the match. Mondol attempted a big hit off Ntuli, sending the ball for a six. Following the shot, Ntuli approached Mondol, words were exchanged, and the situation escalated. Ntuli was seen pushing Mondol and making contact with his helmet, requiring intervention from the umpires and other players.
Commentator’s Reaction
A commentator described the scene as extreme and unacceptable, noting the rarity of physical altercations on the cricket field and highlighting the contact with Mondol’s helmet.
Ntuli later dismissed Mondol for 43. Bangladesh was eventually bowled out for 371 after electing to bat.
Investigation and Potential Sanctions
Currently, no immediate action has been initiated against either player. Standard protocol dictates that sanctions cannot be determined until the on-field umpires submit their official report.
Match referees will reportedly forward their evaluations to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and Cricket South Africa (CSA), who are anticipated to consider further disciplinary measures.
