Trump Administration Seeks Tariff Talks with China
According to Yuyuan Tantian, a social media account associated with CCTV, the Trump administration has sought discussions with China regarding President Donald Trump’s proposed 145% tariffs on Beijing.
The social media account, citing undisclosed sources, stated that the U.S. had proactively contacted China through various means, expressing a desire to negotiate the tariff issue.
However, China’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Guo Jiakun, stated on Wednesday that, to his knowledge, there have been no consultations or negotiations between China and the U.S. concerning tariffs.
Last Friday, Trump mentioned in a U.S. media interview that his administration was engaged in tariff negotiations with China and that President Xi Jinping had contacted him. Last week, Beijing denied that these discussions were occurring, accusing Washington of disseminating misleading information.
